Bob Holiday Flew
One More Time!

On Bob Holiday's 77th birthday, we surprised him by posting on his website the only known color footage of Bob Holiday as Superman. A small group of family and friends had gathered at his home to celebrate his birthday, and they all got to see the debut of this long-lost footage.

Unseen for 38 years, this Aqua Velva commercial was one of the many personal appearances Superman (otherwise known as Bob Holiday) was asked to make. During the run of the show, Bob made appearances on the Johnny Carson show, at the Macy's International Fashion Show, on the "I've Got A Secret" game show, and in a print ad for UniRoyal carpet. Bob kept up a super schedule during 1966, making all these appearance on top of the hectic schedule for "It's a Bird It's a Plane It's Superman©", which included four matinees and five evening performances each week.

Superman historians have told us that this Aqua Velva ad was not part of the publicity for "It's a Bird It's a Plane It's Superman©". Instead, the ad was created in the early 1970s, and the creators looked for—and found—the man who had most recently played Superman ... Bob Holiday!

The producers of this ad not only showcased Bob Holiday's superb embodiment of Superman, they captured a multitude of tiny details important to Superman lore. See how many you can find!
