Superman first appears in Action Comics.
Bob Holiday is 6 years old and loves to read Superman's adventures.

1939

Bob's first performance in front of an audience
Amateur contest in the Catskills. Bob wins a lollipop and likes it!

1940

The Adventures of Superman starring Bud Collyer.
Bob is mesmerized by Bud's voice changing from Clark Kent to Superman!

1941

Bob has just graduated high school and places 2nd in
Ted Mack's Amateur Hour.

1948

Superman movie serials starring Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill.
Bob thinks these serials are amazing!

1945

Bob Holiday joins the army just before the end of the Korean War.
Serves in Germany as a disc jockey for the Armed Forces Network.

1954

Honorably discharged from the Army.
Begins performing in nightclubs in New York, branches out to other parts of the country.

1956

Works in Jack Ruby's Colony Club in Dallas, Texas.
Stunned a few years later to see Jack Ruby on television shoot Lee Harvey Oswald.

1959 -
1962

Receives the part of Neil in Fiorello!, first Broadway role.
Enjoys a two-year run, becomes lifelong friend of Tom Bosley.

1963

Performs in Washington, D.C. alongside Jayne Mansfield.

1963

Performs in Wildcat opposite Mamie Van Doren.
Audiences are scandalized by their two-minute on-stage kiss.
When told to cut the scene to 30 seconds, Bob protests that he'd rather take a pay cut!

1964

Tours in Camelot playing Sir Lancelot opposite Howard Keel.
The two become lifelong friends.

1964

Tours in Lady in the Dark opposite Jane Morgan.
Also in the cast is a then-unknown Goldie Hawn on the brink of stardom.

November, 1965

Auditions for Superman!

1966

Triumphs as Superman!

1967

Recreates role of Superman in two outdoor venues, St. Louis and Kansas City.

1967

Moves to Hollywood.
Works on several projects in Hollywood. Appeared in a number of television commercials.
Cast as Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch, only to have the studio replace him at the 11th hour.

1970 -
1972

Tours with Ann Miller in Mame.
Tours with Anthony Roberts in Promises, Promises.

1971

Wears the cape one last time. The Aqua Velva aftershave company produces a series of ads featuring cultural heroes. They choose Bob Holiday as Superman!

1972

Decides to settle down in Hawley, PA.
Becomes a well-respected home builder.

2003

Appears at Metropolis, IL Annual Superman Celebration.
