After Fiorello!
Bob Continued His Career

Bob Truly Enjoyed Being Cast As Mamie Van Doren's Leading Man.

Ad For Wildcat

After his role as Neil in Fiorello!, Bob Holiday continued working as an actor in venues he loved. He felt that his career was really moving forward when he started on the Dinner Theatre circuit, especially because he was cast opposite some pretty famous leading ladies. From Bob's autobiography Superman on Broadway, co-written with Chuck Harter:

Mamie Van Doren was a very, very hot star. She was an outrageous sex bomb. She had a boyfriend named Bo Belinksy, a star baseball player. He was known to be jealous.... Mamie was great fun to work with. She was very funny, and had milky white skin that almost shone. She would drink wheat germ shakes, and was really into health food.

Newspapers had some interesting comments about the show.

Male Voices
Kissing for Two Minutes
Real Kisses?
Bob and Mamie Van Doren

So what happened? According to Bob:

We did indeed have a full two-minute kissing scene in the show. If you could have seen Mamie at the time, a one second kissing scene would be enough, but the thought of a two minute kiss scene would drive you insane, absolutely insane.
Some things got into the columns, and they did cut it down. Shame. I really would have taken the pay cut.

Bob Holiday definitely enjoyed his role as Joe Dynamite!
